Showroom Upgrade
I am pleased to say that we have just finished refurbishing our showroom at 12 O'Connell Street. The main improvement you will notice on your next visit is the installation of new fixtures and fittings to enable me to better store and display the extensive range of gentlemen's fashion accessories and shoes that I now have available.
Sourced from Europe, all have been personally selected by myself, and I believe represent the very best of what the world has to offer. They include silk ties from Stefano Ricci, our own handmade silk ties from Naples and a less expensive range from Dormeuil, artisan made Italian leather belts, cufflinks, Irish linen and silk handkerchiefs, socks, bespoke pyjamas and boxer shorts, and shoes from Edward Green and Stefano Bemer. Servicing My Clients Overseas
From our earliest days J. H. Cutler has prided itself on the fact that it has continued to service the needs of clients who have moved overseas for business or personal reasons. Currently I have clients living in a number of cities around the world including London, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Boston, Los Angeles, Vancouver and Jakarta.
Just before Easter I paid a four-day visit to Vancouver where I met with a long standing and much loved client to carry out fittings for a vicuna overcoat and a Scottish ensemble, and to deliver a number of finished garments. So please bear in mind that should you move overseas on a temporary or permanent basis it doesn't have to result in the end of our relationship.
The Beauty of Real Horn Buttons
At J. H. Cutler we always use real horn buttons on our suits and jackets and I take great care in a achieving a good match between the garment and button, as it is not usually realised how much handsome buttons add to the look of the finished garment.
Buttons made from horn date back to the sixteenth century and are one of the less well-remembered inventions of the Renaissance. Today they are appreciated for the classic beauty of their colours and many practical qualities. Of great strength, yet stylish and graceful, the intricacies of design and colour can only really be appreciated when one tries to match horn buttons that have been lost. Left undisturbed, they easily outlast the garments they adorn.
Meriton Sydney Invitational Golf Tournament
I was again delighted to donate a J. H. Cutler Gift Voucher for bespoke shirts as an auction prize at the Gala Charity Dinner for this 4-day corporate golf tournament. Attended by over 370 people the evening raised $54,000 for the Westmead Children's Hospital, and the event has now raised over $350,000 for this very worthy cause since it started in 2004.
The Virtues of Faille Cloth
Faille is a soft; light ribbed woven cloth that I have used in the business for more years than I care to remember. It has the virtue of being particularly strong and crease resistant giving better longevity to a garment whilst offering some surface interest. Available in a wide range of plain colours in a medium weight, I find it particularly suitable for casual trousers and for dinner jackets and cream tuxedos for formal wear. I have a range of samples in the showroom and would be happy to show them to you when you next come in.
